PlexMath factoring x cubed plus 2x squared plus 3x plus 6 into (x+2)(x squared+3) on a TI-84 Plus CE, with ENTER: steps under the answer
Factoring
  • PlexMath factoring x cubed plus 2x squared plus 3x plus 6 into (x+2)(x squared+3) on a TI-84 Plus CE, with ENTER: steps under the answer
  • PlexMath's steps for factoring by grouping: group the terms in pairs, take the GCF out of each group, factor out x+2
  • PlexMath solving x squared minus 5x plus 6 equals 0 with steps: two numbers with product 6 and sum -5, set each factor equal to 0, x = 2 and x = 3
  • PlexMath's Calculus menu on a TI-84 Plus CE: Derivative, Integral, Definite integral, 2nd derivative, Limit, Slope at a point, Sum, Taylor polynomial, Implicit dy/dx and Differential equation, each with a worked example
  • PlexMath integrating x cos(x) by parts, with u and dv shown in the first step
  • PlexMath solving x squared minus x minus 6 greater than 0 with steps: critical values, then a sign chart giving x < -2 or x > 3

PlexMath: Solve, Factor and Show the Work on a TI-84 Plus CE

Type a problem the way you would on the home screen and press enter. Press enter again on the answer for Symbolab-style steps.

Plug in your TI-84 Plus CE and turn it on.

Plug in your TI-84 Plus CE, turn it on, and click Connect to install PlexMath.

Sending straight to your calculator works in Chrome or Edge on a computer.

Trouble connecting?
  • In the list that opens, click your calculator, then Connect.
  • Use the cable that came with your calculator. Some cables only charge.

Version 2.1. Works on OS 5.3 through 5.8.5.

What it does

It covers algebra through AP Calculus.

See the work
Press enter on an answer for its steps. Each step names its rule, like Product rule, and shows the line it gives.
Solve
Linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, radical, absolute value, exponential, log and trig equations. A quadratic with no real roots gives the complex ones.
Inequalities
x² − x − 6 > 0 gives x < −2 or x > 3, with the sign chart.
Systems
2, 3 or 4 equations, or put a comma between them, like 2x+y=7, x−y=2.
Factor and simplify
GCF, grouping, the ac method, sums and differences of cubes, and the rational root theorem. Fractions, radicals, complex numbers and trig identities.
Calculus
Derivatives with the product, quotient and chain rules, and implicit differentiation. Integrals by substitution, by parts and by partial fractions, definite and improper. Limits with L'Hôpital's rule, and Taylor polynomials.
Matrices
Determinant, inverse and rref.
Exact answers
Fractions stay fractions and square roots stay square roots. When an answer has MATH 2 under it, math then 2 shows a decimal.

Install

  1. Send it from this page. Connect your calculator and click Install PlexMath.
  2. Run CASSETUP once. It's PlexMath's setup program. The install box tells you the keys for your calculator.
  3. Open it from apps. Your games and apps stay on the calculator.
  • Short on space? The install box says what to delete, and deletes nothing until you click.
  • OS 5.5 or later? The calculator needs a jailbreak to install it. After that PlexMath opens from apps like any other app, no jailbreak needed.

PlexMath's setup program, CASSETUP, is built from app_tools by the CE Programming community.

Keys

  • Open it from apps. The install box says which number to press.
  • In the steps, up and down move between them, and clear goes back.
  • on leaves PlexMath. Your work is still there when you open it again.
  • The line under a problem says what enter will do, like solve for x or simplify.
  • The five keys under the screen open the menus. An item's number picks it.
  • Pick Solve, Factor or another job and it works on the problem you typed, or on the answer on the screen. On an empty line it waits for you to type the problem and press enter.
  • A Calculus item goes in where your cursor is. On an answer it works on the answer.
  • Systems are in Algebra. Second derivatives, limits and Taylor polynomials are in Calculus. ∞ is in Signs.
  • sto→ types =, and so does 2nd math. Press 2nd math twice for < > ≤ ≥ ≠, or find them in Signs.
  • up walks back through your history. 2nd enter brings back the last problem.

If PlexMath gives a wrong answer or does anything confusing, email contact@calcplex.com with what you typed and what it showed.
